The Volkswagen New Beetle was the cute car that started the retro-futurist design craze, which is still going strong.

The front-wheel-drive Volkswagen New Beetle is available as a two-door hatchback or a two-door convertible. Options include bigger wheels and a rear spoiler. Power comes from a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that makes 170 horsepower. Transmission choices are a standard five-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic.

From 1998-2005, the base engine was a 115-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Until recently, turbocharged gasoline engines have been a big part of the New Beetle's trim lineup. Sold from 1999-2006, the New Beetle 1.8T was powered by a 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder, which put out 150 hp. Throughout the years, Volkswagen has released several special-edition models, including limited-edition colors and trim packages. The new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is sleek, swift, and totally sophisticated. The new Beetle offers differing degrees of power, available in four different models – the Beetle GL, Beetle GLS, Beetle GLX, and Beetle Turbo S. We offer monthly updated information in our 2012 Volkswagen Beetle review as data emerges.

Prepare for impending teasing over the next few days as Citroën has released the first in a likely series of preview images of the third member in its distinctive line of DS models, the DS5, which will receive its world premiere on 18 April at the Shanghai International Motor Show.
Aside from the image pictured above, the French carmaker is keeping mum on all the details simply stating that the “DS5 is set to bring distinctive new elegance and panache to the executive class”.
It is believed that the new DS5 will be based on the architecture of Citroën’s C5 mid-size model with engine options including the PSA Citroën-Peugeot group’s Hybrid4 diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.
The DS lineup was inaugurated in 2009 with the launch of the DS3 supermini, while Citroën expanded the range with the introduction of the DS4, a high-stance five-door hatchback, at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

2012 volkswagen beetle - new details revealed picture

Volkswagen is currently preparing the next generation Beetle city car. It will be previewed by a concept version in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show with a production version to follow in 2011.
The 2012 Beetle will be built on a new chassis with wider tracks and a longer wheelbase and will feature MacPherson struts suspensions at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. Engine line-up will include a 105bhp 1.2, a 160bhp 1.4 and a 210bhp 2.0 liter. The US market will also get a 170bhp 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. Diesel line-up will include the new 105bhp 1.6 and a 140bhp 2.0 liter.
In an interview with AutoCar, a Volkswagen insider said: "It is more contoured, with additional structuring and defined feature lines used to help to break up the simple surfacing and unadorned character of the current model. The screen angles are less extreme and the roof structure is less rounded than it is at the moment."

10 Best Car Engine 2011

After learning the names of the ’10 Best Engines’, the enlisted just have to wait for the start of the next Auto Show in Detroit for the award ceremony. As every year the American journal Ward’s Automotive specializes unveiled its annual list of the best engines in 2011. Every year, almost 20, Ward’s journalists announce what, in their opinion, the best engines in the coming year to be mentioned in a spectacular Top Ten: ie “‘s 10 Best Engine Award 2011.”
10 Best Car Engine 2011 300x233 10 Best Car Engine 2011
10 Best Car Engine 2011
So a few days of the end 2010, the nominations for the 2011 models and were released between 38 and newer models who took part in the race, it was determined the 10 Best Engines, the result is not surprising, since it is consistent the diversity of cars involved.
And for the first time in the history of the contest the results reflect a renewal so big with only two models and six repeating their participation completely new winners.
The decrease in the size and engine displacement does not mean a reduction in power, the era of the big V8 engines fall behind, leaving these machines for competing cars or very specific niches.
In this 4-cylinder engines have the performance of a V6 while the six-cylinder equal to eight, so do not be surprised the power or torque, thanks to turbochargers and compressors that are more efficient combustion with that energy loss is reduced.
Different
It should be noted that 2011 will be a historic year for Ward’s, because among the winners of the Award’s 10 Best Engine “included the first ever appointed electric motors, the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf. Was once again the machine diesel Volkswagen Jetta TDI (finalist last year), and large machines like the 5.0 liter V8 Ford Mustang 2011, and the Hyundai Genesis. In addition, attracting a new protagonist: the newly released 3.6-liter V6 Chrysler Penastar beginning to be starring with awards and accolades.
To be eligible for competition, ie belong to the list of competitors, “Ward’s 10 Best Engines”, the car must cost less than $ 55 000 in the U.S. and the engine had to be already available in the first quarter of 2011.
To select the winners, during October and November, the editors of Ward’s Automotive tested vehicles of different brands in mixed urban cycle around the Detroit metropolitan area, which assessed according to their power, fuel economy, noise , vibration, torque, refinement and technological relevance, also clear from the comparison of data.
Electrical
Electric vehicles arrived, and they did to stay, so it is not surprising that among the 10 best engines of 2011 two units are powered by electricity: Leaf Nissan and the Chevrolet Volt.
How cars will become more common, Nissan Leaf, the first Model 100 percent power and mass production of Japan’s home, and was recognized as the European Car of the Year (COTY 2011), while Chevrolet Volt, was his own with the publication Motor Trend and the “Green Car of the Year 2011″ from the Los Angeles Auto Show in North America. This, in a clear way of changing technologies and new generations of cars in which the power supply will be gradually replaced by electricity in exchange for the gradual disuse of fossil fuels.
So Ward’s only corroborates the importance that the power is to the automotive world, with its choice, that if the total of 10 “Best Engines”, two of which correspond to present 100 percent power as in the case of Nissan Leaf or Extended Range Electric, as the little 1.4-liter engine that recharges the batteries for the Chevrolet Volt to extend their autonomy.

Williams dismayed by early 2011 performance

Williams chairman Adam Parr and technical director Sam Michael have admitted they are deeply disappointed with the team’s performance in the first two races of the season, which they say has fallen far short of their expectations.

The Grove-based squad’s radical 2011 car design – which features an ultra-compact gearbox and very tightly packaged rear end – showed promise in winter testing but did not replicate that pace in Australia and Malaysia, while driver errors and a variety of reliability problems have compounded the team’s woes.

Williams have languished near the back of the midfield group so far and are the only established team yet to get on the scoreboard.

“Like everyone at Williams, I am both surprised and frustrated with our start,” said Parr.

“In spite of having an ambitious concept for the FW33, the benefit of continuity with our engine, and moving into our second season with Rubens [Barrichello], we have come up short.

“It is particularly bad in view of our relative strength in pre-season testing and the exceptional amount of work that everyone across Williams has put into this car.”

Parr said the reliability problems have hindered the team’s efforts to develop the FW33.

“First, we have to understand where we are strong and where we are weak. We have had some notable areas of success with the FW33 and we can build on these. We also have some promising improvements coming through for Shanghai and Istanbul and we need to see how these perform.

“We also need to get on top of the reliability issues because these not only affect immediate performance, they also absorb resources that should be focused on improvement.”

Michael was equally blunt in his assessment of the team’s showing last weekend, saying: “Our performance was well below expectations in many areas in Sepang.

“This is not acceptable for us and we’ll be thoroughly reviewing all aspects of our lack of performance before Shanghai.”

Michael detailed the technical problems that sidelined Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado in Malaysia: “Rubens retired with a differential seal leak, caused by excessive slip on the differential during the lap when he had a puncture.

“Pastor retired with a misfire from the engine. The most likely cause of this was a faulty ignition coil, but Cosworth are still investigating this.”

Both Parr and Michael hinted that an overhaul of the team’s engineering group might be necessary to improve performance in the medium term.

“Ultimately the performance and reliability of the car is down to the engineering group and we’ll respond accordingly,” said Michael.

Parr added: “We will move forward, but that does not alter the fact that we have started too far behind.

“Therefore, we will be looking not only at how to address the short-term issues – we will be working together to strengthen the team for 2012 and beyond. Every aspect will be reviewed, nothing is sacred, but we will do this methodically and not in a reactive way.”

Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro

2010 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro

Audi announced that the price for the highly anticipated 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro V10 sports car will be rolled out in Germany in the second quarter of 2009 at a basic price of EUR 142,400. The Audi R8 V10 is the result of cumulative know-how from Audi's string of Le Mans victories. Its naturally aspirated engine combines racing technology such as dry sump lubrication with FSI gasoline direct injection. The ten-cylinder design is the perfect synthesis for impressive top performance, mighty pulling power, and low weight. Starting in 2009, this engine will also prove its potential on the world's racetracks - in the new Audi R8 GT3 racing car Audi is developing for customer teams in conformance with the GT3 rules.
2010 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro

Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro is the next variant of its top-of-the-line model. With the Audi R8, the brand has established itself at the forefront of high-end sports cars from the very start - and now comes the Audi R8 V10. Its 5.2-liter, ten-cylinder engine churns out 386 kW (525 hp) and 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque, which makes for breathtaking performance. With superior Audi technologies such as quattro all-wheel drive, the lightweight aluminum body, the innovative all-LED headlights, and its striking design, the Audi R8 V10 takes pole position against the competition.
2010 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro

The V10 engine in the production sports car will be almost identical in construction to the one in the racing version. Its displacement is 5,204 cc, at 6,500 rpm it delivers 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque, at 8,000 rpm its power tops out at 386 kW (525 hp). The specific power output is 100.9 hp per liter of displacement - and each hp has to propel only 3.09 kilograms (6.91 lb) of weight, because the Audi R8 V10 in the version with the six-speed manual gearshift weighs only 1,620 kilograms (3571 lb). The engine accounts for 258 of these kilograms (569 lb) - that's only 31 kilos (68 lb) more than the V8.
2010 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro

The 5.2-liter powerplant uses direct injection according to the FSI principle developed by Audi. The Audi R8 V10 with R tronic gets by on an average of 13.7 liters per 100 km (17.17 US mpg). The Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro rockets from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 3.9 seconds. In the version with the sequentially shifting R tronic it reaches 200 km/h (124.27 mph) in another 8.1 seconds. Even then its propulsive power hardly lessens: it's sufficient to reach a top speed of 316 km/h (196.35 mph). The immense force, the spontaneity and the thrust of the acceleration, plus the sound of the engine - all these impressions coalesce into a breathtaking sports car experience. The V10 plays a concert with growling bass tones and powerful high notes, which grows into a grandiose fortissimo as the engine revs up. This sonorous acceleration doesn't reach its limit until 8,700 rpm.
2010 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro

A contributing factor to the wide lead in traction and driving safety of the Audi R8 V10 over the competition is quattro all-wheel drive - it's the superior technology especially for a high-performance sports car. Four powered wheels get more grip than two. They enable the driver to step on the gas sooner when coming out of a curve. It's not only the traction that benefits, but also the transverse dynamics and the stability.
